Veneers & Bonding

Dental bonding and dental veneers are operations that may be used to improve the appearance of your smile by altering the color, shape, or spacing of your teeth. The dentists at Aviva Dental in Etobicoke offer dental bonding and dental veneers as ways to improve your smile.

Steps of Dental Bonding

  • 1. A gentle chemical is applied to your teeth in order to give it a little more abrasive feel or texture. The composite resin can adhere to the enamel of the tooth more effectively as a result of this.
  • 2. To get a color that is identical to that of the natural teeth, the composite resin is first blended and then colored.
  • 3. Afterwards, the composite resin is applied to the tooth in successive layers by the dentist.
  • 4. The hardening (or curing) of each layer of the resin that is now on the tooth is accomplished with the use of a very powerful light.
  • 5. Following the hardening (or curing) of the last layer of composite, the dentist will next begin shaping and polishing the resin in order to ensure that the completed tooth appears natural and smooth.

There are many benefits associated with dental bonding, including the fact that it is painless, requires only minor drilling, does not require a local anesthetic, does not take a significant amount of time, veneers can be applied to multiple teeth in a single visit, it is less expensive than crowns, and it can be used on children.

A couple of drawbacks include the fact that dental bonding treatment does not last as long as crowns, lasting only five to ten years, whereas crowns can last anywhere from ten to twenty years. Additionally, certain composite resins can be stained by substances such as tobacco, coffee, tea, blueberries, grape juice, cherries, or red wine.

Steps of Veneers
  • 1. On your very first visit, the Dentist might give you a freezing (called a local anesthetic). He/she then removes part of the enamel from your teeth to make room for the dental veneers. The dentist then makes a mold (or an impression) of the teeth. The impression is sent to a dental lab, where the veneers are then custom-made.
  • 2. On the next visit, the Dentist puts a mild chemical on the teeth to make them a little rougher, this helps the veneers stick better to the teeth.
  • 3. Then the veneers are attached to the teeth, one by one, using the composite resin cement.
