Non-Surgical Gum Therapy

Gum disease, which is characterized by its absence of pain and its sluggish progression, is a significant issue that may at times call for an urgent therapy. Some individuals, regardless of how hard they try to maintain their general oral health, may still not be responding well enough to prevent gum diseases. Gum diseases pose a danger for your whole body since they may develop to a variety of health issues.

Because gum disease often does not exhibit any symptoms that are related to it, it is possible that you may not detect its existence. By the time the majority of individuals become aware of the likelihood of an evident periodontal disease, it has already progressed to an advanced degree. Periodontal disease may manifest itself in a number of ways, including chronic foul breath, gums that are loose, gums that are bleeding, and a loss in the quantity of enamel.

If gum disease is found to be present, we may recommend non-surgical gum treatment in order to minimize the amount of plaque and tartar that is present in and above the gums. This will be done after a comprehensive periodontal examination. There are two treatments that are included in non-surgical gum therapy: scaling and root planing. Both of these procedures may be performed concurrently.

The removal of plaque and tartar, a white, sticky material that forms in and above the gum line, is an essential part of the scaling and root planning process. The ultimate comfort of our patients is our first priority, and we work hard to bring back that beautiful smile on your face.

In most cases, these processes are carried out over a period of time and are re-evaluated on a regular basis in order to determine how successful they are. At the end of the day, the most severe forms of gum disease can call for surgery to be carried out by a gum expert (periodontist), which is a specialist that we have on the Aviva staff.
